In the process of being innovative, many schools in Australia are using social media to improve the learning experience of the learners. In the education sector, the social media use has continued to be an issue of great concern as many schools are making use of technology in the process of improving the learning experience. The increased use of social media can be entirely associated with the increased need for enhancing the life of learners in the learning institutions. For instance, in childhood education, the stakeholders are looking for strategies that can make the children innovative in their future career life (McLachan, 2013). As a result, many institutions are coming up with innovative learning services that can make the learners creative and innovative. Besides, schools are continually incorporating technology in teaching as a way of enhancing service delivery and meet the learning needs of the diverse learners. Social media platforms are important in the process of improving the way learning is done in the learning institutions. Many learners are looking for more convenient learning services that can accommodate their tight schedules. The government in collaboration with the learning institution are integrating learning with technology to revolutionize the learning experience where new strategies are being developed to ensure that the learning experience of the learners is improved (George and Dellasega, 2011). Learning institutions are incorporating the use of social platforms such as twitter, and Facebook among others in the process of improving the interactions of the students with the tutors. This essay will be exploring the use of social media as the current curriculum issue to communicate, inform and analyze its use in the learning institutions. Use of social media in learning institutions Many learning institutions are embracing technology in the process of enhancing the learning and ensuring that the teaching is in line with the current curriculum objectives. The current curriculum objectives emphasize on efficiency and improvement in the learning experience of the learners. The theories advocate for teaching practices that can improve the learning in schools through embracing technology. Considering the various curriculum theories, efficiency and effectiveness in learning institutions are crucial in improving the experience of learners (Moran, Seaman and Tinti-Kane, 2011). As a result, embracing technology in teaching can improve the service delivery hence meeting the needs of the learners. Considering the technological changes taking place globally, adopting technology-related teaching practices are important in the process of improving the experience of the learners. In Australia, the learning institutions that are in a position to offer learning services that are digital are considered competitive as they are able to meet the demand in the education market. The usage of the social media in schools has resulted in changes in the way the learning has been done in learning institutions. However, the variety of different incidents which arise in various institutions concerning the utilization of the social media is a clear indication of the uncertainties which the learning institutions face (Tess, 2013). Moreover, the existence of areas which are legal is always inevitable when there are new digital platforms emerging. Specifically, in schools, the staff is more concerned in the determination of the appropriateness of the social media. The use of social media in the education sector has been a common trend as institutions are seeking the best ways of meeting the expectations of the learners. The changes that have been taking place in the education sector has revolutionized the delivery of the learning services globally. Furthermore, when students get an education in a world which is drastically evolving in terms of technology and also social media, it is quite necessary for the teachers to understand about the pervasiveness of the social media as well as its influence on the student learning process (Reuben, 2008). Significantly, the social media establishes a good communication between the school staff, thus creating a learning environment which is positive. However, so as to adapt well to the new platforms of the social media, the schools are required to implement its policies and also the teachers should be trained on how to use the social media responsibly in order to minimize its risks. Learning institutions are now incorporating the use of technology in enhancing the learning experiences of the learners. The use of social media in learning has been increasing among many learning institutions in Australia that are been reinforced by the increased use of internet among the learners. The learning institutions are now realizing the benefits of making use of the technological advancements to meet the needs of the learners (Gikas and Grant, 2013). Besides, the education sector has been facing stiff competition as the learning institutions are looking for the ways that they can utilize to attract learners. As a result, they are moving to the use of technology in learning with the aim of improving the service delivery and meet the needs of the learners. For instance, there is increased the need for learning services that are convenient as most of the learners have tight time schedules hence the need for making sure that the learning is improved. The learning experience has improved through the use of the social media platforms where the learning institutions can make use of social media to improve the experience of the learners. For instance, the tutors are now issuing notes to the students using social media with the aim of improving the service delivery. Besides, take away cats can be issued to the students and guidelines provided using social media making it easy for the tutors especially when teaching many students. It is over the social media that the learners are able to seek clarifications from the tutors hence improving the way services are offered to the learners (McLachan, 2013). The learning institutions that are not embracing the use of social media are likely to become irrelevant in the education sector as learners are seeking learning experiences that are advanced. As a result, embracing technology has become a trend in the education sector with many institutions using the social media platforms in discharging their services. Besides, many learning institutions have developed their websites to improve the learning experience of the learners. The students can be in a position to access the books they want online, past papers online and other relevant learning materials online. The students are issued with their special passwords that they use to access the learning materials, where they can access any book relevant to their course. The students can access the learning materials they want without necessarily visiting the libraries to get access to the books. As a result, the learners are finding the social media use as important in improving their service experiences. Also, the students can form online group discussions where they can be in a position to make the necessary discussions without necessary meeting in person (Tess, 2013). The social media platforms have led to distant learning where the students can get the instructions of the tutor and learn online using the social media platforms. Therefore, the use of social media ensures that the students can learn from their homes and do their exams at their homes. Benefits of social media The social media use can be associated with many benefits to both the learners and the institutions. For instance, the social media use has led to the improvement in service delivery as the tutors can easily deliver their services to the learners through the help of the social media platforms. The social media use is considered important in meeting the convenience needs of the learners. For instance, the learners can be in a position to discuss academic issues while in their homes. They can be in a better position to hold discussion using the social media platforms and share notes hence creating the needed convenience (Correa, Hinsley and De, 2010). It is this convenience of the social media that has led to increased adoption of their use in the learning institutions. The learner who is seeking admission in learning institutions is considering the convenience of the services offered by the institutions. Technology has improved the social networking in schools where the interactions of the learners with their tutors has increased leading to better understanding of the students. Besides, the learners find the use of social media as convenient as the communication with the students are improving due to the use of social media in learning. The engagement of the stakeholders in schools has been made possible through the social media use hence enhancing the learning outcomes. The management of schools has improved with the aim of making sure that the learning progress of the students is properly monitored and communicated to the parents. The school management can ensure that the progress of the students can be easily communicated to the parents and that the parents are engaged in the process of addressing the issues facing the learning experience of the learners (McLachan, 2013). For instance, Facebook has improved communication between the schools and the stakeholders hence improving the operations that are necessary for ensuring that the service delivery is improved. For instance, the challenges facing the students can be easily discussed by the management of the school and the parents using Facebook and a solution attained to address the challenges. This has revolutionized the management of the learning of the students as the stakeholders can be easily engaged in the process of ensuring high-quality services are provided in the learning institutions. The use of social media increases the chances of innovation among children as they are able to access different learning experiences that make them creative. In early childhood education, the children’s creativity can be improved through the social media platforms. It is through creativity that the children can be creative in their future learning experiences. Besides, the social media has led to improvement in communication in learning institutions. The students can be able to access the necessary information as their learning institutions use the social media platforms to communicate (Correa, Hinsley and De, 2010). Communication in the learning institutions has improved where the school management can ensure that the relevant stakeholders are provided with the necessary information for information. The schools which are highly effective always have high levels of engagement between the parents and the school staff. Moreover, all schools in Australia are mostly encouraged to prepare students for the world which is drastically changing in terms of technology. Apart from teaching the content of subjects in schools, teachers are also expected to bring up young people who are actually media literate as well as critical thinkers. Considering the screenshots, there was clear evidence for the teachers referring students as toxic, idiots and also dumb although the teachers made a claim that their account was actually hacked. However, even if these were individual acts of the employees in that high school, the reputational effect on that school was very severe to an extent that it destroyed the aspect of trust between the students and teachers. As a result of not understanding well about the usage of the digital platforms, the teachers thought that the application was private while the app was actually exposed to the whole public (Cheston, Flickinger and Chisolm, 2013). Also, the learners can sometimes make use of social media platforms for the wrong purpose hence posing some challenges in embracing social media in learning. For instance, they can communicate information that is considered confidential hence not expected to be posted on the social platforms that are public sites. Therefore, the use of social media in most cases is usually viewed as the major cause of various evils as well as the center of controversy, especially in schools. Conclusion The social media can be utilized by the schools in positive ways such as engaging students in school activities and also facilitating effective learning. In addition, the majority of the learning institutions have actually published both the guidelines and also the policies for the social media. However, the National School Framework should be developed by the department of education to provide a comprehensive guideline on how the social media can be utilized in the schools.
