Russian Modern and Contemporary Art The modern and contemporary art in Russia is taking a different perspective from the widely imperial symbolism of the Russian empire or the USSR kingdom, which had dominated the art industry. Today’s art, exhibits a new trend of young artists referred to as, the progressive artists With the majority of them being born at the time of, or after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 (Gough, 156). Modern, contemporary art forms have changed traditional motifs to new ones such as photography.

Fresh art forms such as radio dramas, motion pictures and jazz have disintegrated the elite and popular culture. This paper analyzes the influence of Russian contemporary artistic work on the economy and political landscape of Russia. Russian contemporary arts People of Russia who are the biggest market to the modern contemporary art works treasure the Russian, modern art. Through globalization, many things are taking a new turn in Russia and the art world is among the affected. While themes are, altering Russian contemporary artists lagged behind their western counterparts in the use of modern, innovative materials.

Public acknowledgement of the progress made modern art is a boosting factor as many people are giving their support as well as interest in the art works. The government and The Moscow Museum of Modern Art are in the forefront in developing the contemporary art industry. They prioritise promotion of young, and emerging talented artists by bringing them into contemporary artistic process via the activities of the Independent Workshops School of Contemporary Art (Muellner 232). The Moscow Museum of Modern Art has amassed public support since it was launched in 1999 becoming an energetic industry that has a significant role on the Moscow art scene (Gough, 166).

Contemporary art forms have been integral in spreading the Russian culture globally. For the first time, popular culture was changed from being a cultural heritage of a certain region and spread worldwide. For instance, soviet leaders used movies and cinemas to advance their socialist values to remote areas, and in the meantime allowed people in those areas to learn of the American culture and values. The Russian contemporary art has had an enormous influence on the political aspect and economic condition of that country.

This is because of their rich varied cultural history, which has shaped the economy of that country. Unfortunately, the economic hardships in Russia faced by its citizens have resulted to export of its precious artistic works and antiques. The notion is suddenly changing with a thriving economy instigated by the worldwide thirst for oil, minerals, and metal resource found in Russia (Muellner 230). This created many billionaires in that country as result influencing the contemporary artistic aspect of that country.

Even though they cannot resolve their political ideologies and financial situation, they have a chance of conserving and promoting their cultural legacy. This can be achieved by using acquired wealth to purchase significant artistic works that are possessed by foreign investors. The past ten years have resulted to rising in value of artistic work from Russia. This lead to a Russian artistic auction in the year 2004, and establishment of MacDougall Auctions in the same year. It was the only art auction company to focus on Russian art (Gough, 156).

The art house was based in London with an office in the city of Paris together with representatives from Moscow. The establishment of Aurora investment fund started by Russian billionaire called Viktor Vekselberg investing in Russian artwork reinforced the value of their cultural legacy (Muellner 234). Conclusion In the past years, the conventional religious paintings have paved way to modern art. The contemporary Russian art sustainability is questionable, as there are only few modern, artistic works.

The value of Russian artistic work continues to rise and contemporary Russian art gaining immensely from the expansion of the contemporary artistic market. The country has seen renewed interest in appreciation and possession of their cultural artwork in the recent years. This has led to reduction of the Russian artwork in the foreign market as wealthy Russian Purchasers contribute them to art galleries in Russia or keep the valuable works. This has directly affected the political landscape and political condition in Russia.
