Prior to beginning any procedure, ensure that the bicycle is turned upside down. This is to ensure that the weight is well distributed on the seat and the handlebars because lack of a good weight distribution may result in frequent falling of the bicycle and hence interfere with the wheel removal process (Papadopoulos, 103).

The caution for this step is that the base for the operation must be evenly flat. Any bumpy surface will not guarantee well weight distribution during the removal process.

The next step is to try and loosen the nuts that clutch the hinge to the frame. If they are exceedingly rigid, lubricate the nuts by spraying them with appropriate lubricant or smear some grease. However most modern bicycles do not have nuts fixed; for these bikes, they usually have a quick release that can easily be loosened (Whitt, 102). In that case, just loosen the quick release and proceed with the next step.

The caution is that water should not be used as a lubricant because it is the chief cause of rusting. Secondly, some lubricants may have a reaction with the metallic parts hence professional advice is indispensable. It is recommended to use vegetable oil or silicone lubricants. The third step is to get the wheel out of the frame. Since this is a rear wheel we are dealing with, the chain will have to be from the gear bunch. In order to achieve an effortless removal of this wheel, the chain should be relocated to the least gear on the wheel prior to slackening the skewer or nuts (Matt, 123).

The caution for this step is to ensure that the brakes are released so that the wheel can move freely during the process. The other caution is to be very careful when handling chains and the gear to avoid the possibility of the fingers being pressed between the chain and the gear resulting in injuries.

This process may appear simple to anyone, however, it is important to note that this is a mechanical process and all aspects of mechanical operations should be adhered to such as safety precautions and the usefulness of following the step-by-step procedure as indicated by the manufacturer.
