In collectivism, I value the cultural element being philosophic, religious and social outlook emphasize on the interdependence of every human being in the world. For example, the bond between my family and I will not be broken by anything since there has been a great support from my family ever since. The loyalty in my family will bind us together forever that’s why I exist in collectivism. 1. How important do you think ethical leadership is on a scale of 1 to 10 Ethical leadership is mostly applied by leaders in organization to boost employee’s morale and loyalty of workers. The code of ethics organization use will determine the set of principles that will act as a guide in the organizational policies and programs hence ethical leadership is a guide. Ethical leadership is used to encourage workers in meeting the required levels the organization intends to reach. The source of encouragement is brought by the spirit and inspirations upheld by numerous workers who have succeeded earlier. Ethical leadership also ensures better ethical behaviour among employees that will provide complete honesty and integrity in the organization. Ethical leadership enhances organizational reputation in the community and the financial market since solid reputation for integrity and ethics will improve organizations business activities. Following of ethical leadership in an organisation it will create an organisational culture which will reinforce ethical behaviour through rewarding of talents in the organisation. Also a positive and healthy organization will tend to improve the level of productivity and employee retention; in which in turn has a financial benefits in the organisation. Ethical leadership is also a source benefit in the organization as it provides a role model personality to both employees and citizens. Compliance is reached upon through ethical leadership since policies are enumerated clear. Ethical too will tend to do what is right or good, be able to articulate visions and authenticate them and also it requires the ability to frame actions. On the other hand ethical leadership cannot be vital since it has to be learned effectively. Lack of acquiring it skills will not facilitate its role. Therefore it is the reason as to why ethical leadership has been ranked on the scale 1to 10 since it is relatively important in all aspects of leadership. 2. In your experience, where do most people learn about values/ethics? In my experience values and ethics are daily core attributes that are obtained rightly from the smallest part of a society: the family. One is able to obtain and get values from the society where they come from. The society is part of the first school a person is likely to be subjected to. Values and ethics are taught by the society as a cultural or societal norm that persons have to observe them. Failure in observing these societal norms persons will be out-casted in the society since they will not have better values and ethics that will bind them to the societal bond. Therefore, most people in the world tend to learn values and ethics rightly from their childhood in the society through parents and community leaders. 3. Who had the most important influence on the formation of your ethical character? The influence on the formation of ethical character is mostly through parents. Parents are seen by children as their teachers and also counsellors. Obtaining ethical characters from parents is easy rather than acquiring them from unknown individual who may come in as a teacher in second party. Children are therefore able to learn a lot from their parents than any other teacher. Parents are well advised to teach their children better values and ethics since they are the first teachers in the lives of their children also the most trusted one. In formation of ethical character people will tend to learn and obtain characters influenced through their first teacher in the society: parents. 4. Describe a situation that you feel really tested your ethics. Is there anything you wish you had done differently? My younger brother had a habit of playing games with an association of bad children. He is ten years old of age. He used to attend night celebration parties in the neighbouring estates without getting any recommendation to be allowed to go out at night. Being younger it was not applicable for children of his age to be attending night parties. He used to escape unaware from everyone in the family and join the company of the other unruly children in the estate. This habit increased a lot that he also became unruly too and started to steal money from my parent so that they can by lollipops and pay attendance fee to watch videos. It came to my knowledge that my brother has become unruly and my mother could not control him again and I had to intervene. I got hold of my brother and gave him corporal punishment through strokes so that he can change and have good behaviour. Unluckily the next day my brother vanished from home to watch movies in the market. It looked like he could not change and learn from the strokes I gave him. I regretted a lot having canned him yet he did not change at all. I wished I would have talked to him emotional to understand the situation the family is going through due to his erupting bad behaviour and bad company from the neighbourhood maybe he would have listened and change. 5. In your experience, what factors can make it difficult for people to make ethical decisions? Ethical decisions can be difficult to formulate especially when people think about the consequences to face. People have a tendency of limiting the number of consequences they will consider. In making these ethical decisions people are likely to undervalue the negative consequences while valuing a lot on the positive consequences. To prevent this aspect of difficult in decision making one should involve various stakeholders in the decision making process. When all the groups in the situation are involved it will be easy to identify the consequences. Also personal instinct and fact gathering inhibit ethical decisions. Perceived personal instinct will tend to neglect certain facts that will lead to obtaining an incorrect decision. Gathered facts on the other hand too will make decision making process harder since an effective decision process relies on facts. These facts will be hard to obtain since in many occasions accessing of raw facts is inaccessible. 6. How important do you think it is for someone to be vocal or open about their ethical standards? An ethical standard provide a way of communication from the various basic principles to the professional interests. The openness of ethical standards will provide an effective way of communicating to each other at all level of association; the organization or the society level. Ethical standards provide clarity of sense of professional identity that differentiates from those individuals practising other occupation and profession. Also ethical standard provide a way to address questions and problems that are related to ethical matters. Vocal in ethics offers and establishes standards of conduct in professionalism that will enhance behaviour guidelines to serve the ethical issues associated in profession and occupation. 7. Should people be rewarded for being ethical? Rewarding of ethical consideration should be observed and considered at all levels. Rewarding of ethics that individuals have observed will bring out the notion of reinforcing the values and ethics either in an organisation or a society. In order to reward on ethics, organisation would have assessed the likelihood of individual to see the impacted improvement. The power of reward behind ethics is that it will boost individual and organisational morale towards working thus meeting the organisational objective. Reward also improves competition among people and workers in an organization. Competition will yield better service and production offering to customers. Therefore people should be rewarded so as to increase the level among employees working tireless to get the reward and also it boost individual morale while participating in any activity thus ethics should be rewarded.
