Extract of sample "Ted Bundy: Conversations with a Killer"

  • Washington State, the death of his former girlfriend (Michaud, 1999), as well as two others by the names of Janice Ott and Denise Naslund
                a. During this time, five others went missing and four of them were later found
  • Utah and Colorado
                a. Seven more people went missing, only of which four were found
                b. One person was able to escape from him after he posed as a police officer

Arrest and Escapes

  • He was arrested August 16, 1975, after resisting a police officer
  • During a court session, in which Bundy was allowed a break to the courthouse library, Bundy jumped from a window and escaped. He was later apprehended on June 13, 1977, and placed back in prison
  • During his latest stay in prison, Bundy spent most of his time sawing through his ceiling with a hacksaw that he claimed was given to him by another inmate (Aynesworth, 2000). He succeeded in escaping yet again. He was apprehended once more on February 15, 1978, after another run-in with the police.
  • While he had been on the run the second time, Bundy committed no less than six other women, including a 12-year-old

Sentencing

  • Bundy confessed to and was convicted of thirty-six murders (Hare, 1999); nobody could say exactly how many he had actually committed, but it is estimated over fifty. As there was no proof of this, he could not be convicted of these also
  • He died on January 24, 1989, from electrocution
