Centripetal Force - Lab Report Example

Summary
When the sum of forces acting on an object is zero, the object is said to be in equilibrium and it either moves in a straight line with constant speed or remains at rest. A rotating object cannot be in equilibrium as it does not move in a straight line. This implies that a force…

t is made sure that the position of the cross arm and radial indicator allows the mass to hang directly over the indicator when the spring is released. The diameter of the shaft and the distance from the shaft to the indicator are then measured and recorded. Hand is then used to spin the shaft until the hanging weight passes directly over the indicator. With the radius held constant, the time taken by 50 revolutions is recorded. From this, frequency of the motion can be determined and hence centripetal force on the mass.

To determine the actual force required to stretch the spring enough to hold the weight over the indicator, a string is connected to the mass and passed over to the pulley. Weights are then added to the end of the string until the mass is positioned over the indicator. The value of force obtained will be correct and can be used in calculating the uncertainty in the value of centripetal

Speed Improvement of Aerofoils to an F1 Car

This research paper introduces concepts of angular acceleration, Centripetal Force, moments of forces, scaling and dimensioning, coefficient of friction, unit conversion, and problem solving.... In this case, the Centripetal Force, , is directly proportional to the resultant upward force on the car as a result of the two down ward forces, and not merely the weight of the car as earlier calculated.... The primary function of the aerofoils is to create a down force, that aids in pushing the tyres of the car onto the track and consequently improve the cornering forces; and minimise the drag that is brought about by turbulence and finally act to slow the car down (Formula1, 2014)....
