Research Proposal: Influence of Employee Performance In Google Name: Unit: Professor: Submission Date: 1.0. Introduction The research question to this proposal is whаt саn influеnсе еmрlоyее реrfоrmаnсе in gооglе? Munyon (2010 p1505) behaviors at work refer to employee/employer function interaction and the work environment. In this regard work environment refers to all factors of the organizational systems. Performance is achieved through behaviors interplay. Google is a leading search engines in the internet (About Google P1). Founded in 1998, Google specializes in internet-related products and services. These includes online software, cloud computing, search and advertising technologies. Google has attracted so much attention for people from all walks of the world. It has not only, eased how people gather and synthesize information in the internet, but also it has become an employment platform for many people. It gains its profits primarily from adwords, an advertising service that ensures that advertising services online are placed in the top list of results of search. The mission of Google is to organize information from all corners of the world and ensure that it is accessible to everyone and is useful (Google p1). Google depends on great professional so as to come up with a great product. Currently, Google has more than 40,000 employees that backs up the tools used in the internet such as Search and Chrome. Majority of employee are software developers (Google Company p1). Product development works hand in hand with research. This explains why many Googlers are people with an exemplary knowledge who have attained high levels of education; most of them solving challenging computer science problems. Google is rich of technical problems that call for a solver, and therefore most Google problems are handled from bottom-up. Unlike many organizations, Google offers flexible and different employment opportunities for different persons at different times and even an existing employee can switch to a specialty that fits his/her comfort and exposure. The CEO, is approachable and free to respond to any question from other Googlers regardless of their level (Google company p3). It is the exciting challenges brought in by vast data capacity and complete systems scale that brings the uniqueness and satisfaction that working in Google gives to the employees (Work at Google p1). Answering the research question is fundamental to help us understand how employees in Google can keep up to the task and mission of the Google and ensure it remains the leading search engine within the internet. 1.1. Aims i. To understand work environment in Google. ii. To find out factors that influence the performance of employee in Google 1.2. Objectives i. To find out how can employees in Google improve their performance? ii. To find out what factors can affect employee performance in Google? iii. To investigate what challenges employees in Google face in their work environment? 2.0. Literature review Ripley (2002 p1) & Crlson (2011 p772) studies show that 2/3 of problems of employee performance arise from the work environment rather than the workers. Over the years, many organization and studies have proposed in fixing the employees as a solution to good performance (Ripley 2002 p1). Such forms of employees fixing strategies that have been employed include employees’ discipline, training, and development of systems, planning of career and instituting systems that enhance performance management geared towards goal setting (Ripley 2002 p2). Munyon (2010 p1505) today, employee performance has further been incorporate to include hygiene factors which refer to safe and clean working conditions, reasonable returns and fair pay. The personal life of the employee has been put into considerations currently and therefore, employee assistance programs, child care, fitness programs, counseling elements etc play a great role in building the persona and in turn improving on his/her performance. In addition Ripley (Ripley 2002 p1), currently other innovative approaches have been put in place to assist employees handle their personal roles and work conflicts. Tom Gilbert, further brought forth a strategy that is viable to aid in employee performance that looks into the system and the person needs the BEM (Behavior Engineering Model). This model looks into Motivation, capacity, skill and knowledge, incentives, resources and information availed to the employee as a relationship to their performance (Ripley 2002 p2). 3.0. Methodology 3.1. Data collection The research plans to use surveys and questionnaires. The interview questions will be emailed to various selected cases. The questionnaire will consist of both open ended and closed questionnaire. Marshall (1996 p522) structured and unstructured questionnaire will form part of the questionnaire to help gain more and unique information from the participants. In addition, to the interview questions, the participants will also find in attached consent form to authorize or decline their participation. 3.2. Research method Qualitative research method The study aims to find out about behaviors and work environment relations. Therefore, it will use qualitative research method. Marshall, (1996 p523), qualitative research method looks opinion or attitude, and is vital in science disciplines that studies behaviors. Its main objectives are to find out why human behaviors are the way it is. Hence, qualitative research method falls in line within the expectations of this study. A pilots study will be carried for similar group of target and time to find out the practicability of the survey question see Appedix 1. 3.3. Study design The research plans to use case study design to gather information. According to Jacobson, Pruitt, & Rugeley, (2009 p2) use of case studies to gather information is significance in that it depicts experience of people in program results, process and input. It is also a prevailing mode of portraying program to other people. It is significant in providing information that has not faced much research, hence unique. However, it is cumbered with challenges of failure to provide breadth of information rather than the depth, and consumes a lot of time in gathering the information, organizing and analyzing. Nevertheless, the research design suits this study. 3.4. Sample According to Unite For Sight, (2015 p1) in any research sample size is primarily vital. This is because it is neither possible nor is it ethical to carry out a study in a whole population. Sample is used to study a particular population related to the study question and the results are in turn generalized. This study will use qualitative sampling to answer the question in this research. The sample ought to be representative. Unite For Sight, (2015 p1) John Hauser and Abbie Griffin did find that in qualitative studies 20-30 interviews can uncover information regarding customers to about 90-95% of them. Also, Dr.Saiful who is a clinical researcher, conforms to this fact saying that sample size >30 and Read More
