Observation Project: s Shopping in the Mall Teacher’s s Shopping in the Mall The other day I went to shop, instead of buying something I thought that I should analyze the customers and observe their actions. I came to learn quite a few things that I had only read in the books. First of all there are different kinds of customers. From the most carefree to the most carefull kind of customers are present at the mall. From most untidy to the prettiest you have ever seen. 1. Fun lovers There are some who go to the mall just for sake of fun.

These are usually in the form of groups. They range from teenagers to young adults mostly. 2. The Family Often on weekends we see people spending loads and loads of money with their families and being happy about it. To me these usually looked the richest people at the mall. They tend to buy every cozy thing and even the silliest things just because it becomes a source of memory building collection. 3. The wanna-bees There are also those who are there to impress their partners and were keen to find flaw in every expensive thing that the mate laid hands on.

These normally won’t let the other one buy anything that costs more than 20% of what they have in their wallet. 4. The attractive and dressed ones There are a number of girls and boys who wear clothes meant for parties to the mall. These tend to catch a lot of attention because they seem to be the odd ones in the huge crowd at malls. Now, if these people see a sale on something flashy, they will jump for it. Presumably, they even set what they are going to buy next when they come to the mall.

Some of them even buy a lot of things. 5. The window shopper Normally, these are dressed casually, but some might even be dressed well. These do not go to the mall to buy anything what so ever, but if something out of the ordinary attracts them, they will surely go for it. 6. The Shopaholic Finally, the people who keep the malls going- the shopaholics!! These people live and breathe malls and brands. They treat malls as their drug to curb their needs. These people are for whom the malls are really made.

Both, the shopaholics and window shoppers, take a huge interest in the products, for example, I saw a girl enter every shop just to check makeup. She knew a lot about make up products and was trying on everything present as testers and bought just one lip gloss in the end, that too from one of the first few shops that she had raided. Then another one I observed did the same but also bought about everything she tried. To sum up, there are all kinds of customers at the mall. One really needs to observe in which category a certain customer will fall.

Especially, the employees dealing directly with the customers need to know that in order concentrate on the one who really will buy what they are trying. Moreover, the marketers need to understand how a certain thing can become even more appealing for the customers. So much so, that even the window shoppers are persuaded to buy the product because of the outlook and its promise.
