Microsoft Corporation is an American Multinational company founded by Bill gates and Paul Allen on 4th April 1975. It is headquartered in Redmond, Washington and its main function is to develops, manufactures, supports and licenses large range of computing related products and services. The company operates in five segments: Online Services and Division (OSD), Windows and Windows Live Division (windows division), Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD), Microsoft Business Division (MBD) and Server and tools. Microsoft is the global leading software maker measured in terms of revenues collected (Stross, 56). The initial goal for the establishment of Microsoft Corporation was to develop and sell basic interpreters for the Altair 8800. However, with time the company grew to dominate the entire personal computer operating system (PC) market segment in the late 80s. The dominance of the company in the market increased and that saw it expand its production to include Microsoft windows line of OS. In 1986, the company offered its IPO (Initial public Offer) that raised around $3 billion from the public an around $12 million from its employees (Stross, 56). After the IPO, the company has increasingly diversified from OS market and has made several company acquisitions. The largest acquisition to date was the acquiring of Skype Technologies for a price worth $8.5 billion. Just like any other corporation, Board of Directors (B.O.D) is responsible for the daily management of the corporation. Apart from the B.O.D, the company also has the CEO who is a member of the board but is fully responsible for the business operation of the business. Despite numerous critics that the company has been exposed to since 1990; the truth is, Microsoft helps business and people throughout the globe to realize their full potential. It makes this simple mission a reality every day through its passion to develop products and technologies that touch every kind of its customer (Stross, 56).
