  6. Describe each of the five step processes you would use to size the domestic water distribution system for a commercial building.

The five step process to size the domestic water distribution would be as follows

1-Water pressure must be determined for all points in case of domestic hot and cold water systems.

2-Need to account for pressure losses from the municipal water connection to the building’s water supply.

3- Needs to account for the residual water pressure at plumbing fixtures situated in the upper level.

4-Static pressure of the system need to be analyzed

5-The equipment and material capability to handle pressure needs to be gauged.

  1. Describe the process you would use in sizing the storm water drainage system for a commercial building? Assume that this buildings dimensions are 100’ x 200’ and that the roof will be tapered such that there are two low points, each of equal square footage. What size roof drains are needed? You need to coordinate with the site contractor to determine what size storm water main to run to the front of the building; describe the process you would use to determine the storm water main size and identify the size.

The process that would be used to size the storm water drainage system for a commercial building would be as follows-

  • Overview the principles that assist the complete drainage of storm water .
  • Information will be gathered to design the appropriate storm water drainage system.
  • The layout will be drawn for the storm water drainage system along with document preparation.
  • Building codes and standards to size the storm water drainage system need to be laid.

The size of the roof drain will be 4 inch considering the rainfall measure and dimension of the building along with the roof tapering.

The storm water main size would be 300 mm.

  1. Describe the process you would use to determine the total drainage fixture unit (DFU) load on the building sewer for each of the two buildings. What is the total DFU load for each building? (10 points).

The process used to determine the total drainage fixture units is by considering the types of individual appliance, appurtenance or fixture used in the plumbing system. Then its minimum size in inches would be taken in to consideration to calculate the drainage fixture unit.

Each building will have 60 DFU .

  1. Describe the process you as the project manager would use in determining what materials to use for the DWV systems for this project. (10 points).

The process of determining the type of material for the DWM system would be based on the following facts.

  • The piping layout and atmospheric pressure in all areas will be considered.
  • Movement of waste water and solids will be monitored.
  • The pitch on the horizontal runs would be analyzed.
  • The corrosion resistance, noise insulation, capacity, joints and gentle bends and local code requirements also will be considered.

The total WSFU load for each building would be 40.

  1. Describe the process you would use to size the domestic hot water system for this project. What is the total hot WSFU load for each of the two buildings? (10 points)

The process to size the domestic hot water system would be as follows

  • The demand for hot water quantity and temperature would be analyzed.
  • The capacity ,type and heating surface of the heat exchanger would be analyzed.
  • The boiler details will be checked.
  • The design and size of the pipe would be analyzed.

The total hot WSFU load for each of the two buildings will be 65
