The World Is Flat: An Analytic Examination The World Is Flat: An Analytic Examination The world is flat because the world can now communicate across the world without having to be there individually. The goal was to create a platform that allowed the world to communicate seamlessly. The ability to create a PC was the first step towards making people to communicate, share and access information in form of emails, instant messages and videos. The creation of the Netscape browser was also a good beginning towards the realization of the modern-day websites that could be transferred to different regions across the world using the fiber-optic. The challenges and opportunities were all masked in the same platform, and the digital platform that was able to wire the world was born. The revolution of the internet made it possible to interlink different computers across the world, making it easier to enhance distribution of materials across the globe. New interventions were made to make it easy to plug, play, compete, connect and collaborate with each other seamlessly. Main points: summary from main speaker The changes noted after the invention of the internet and advanced technology in digital platforms has made it possible to create a new world that few fathomed in the past. Individual digital materials are easy to sell to the world without the initial hustle of having to go through the stipulated regulations. Instead, the upload of materials has made it possible to provide more information than one can handle in a day, and change the way people relate to information. Friedman looks at the horizontal shift of using information as a platform that replaces the vertical shift present before the advancement of technology. Friedman is sure that the world will continue expanding whether one takes the initiative or not. Even a driver, as noted in Friedman’s travel to Budapest, has a website translated into three different languages. The speed at which the world is moving is making it difficult for people without the passion to develop their skills. The ability to make use of the internet to make sure they gain from the flattening world notion. One’s imagination, therefore, is one of the most important aspects that people need to work on to ensure they take full advantage of the possibilities present. Learning to collaborate is one of the greatest advantages presented to all people who want to make sure they maximize on the increased connectivity across the world. This will increase productivity gains and make it easier to understand the benefits of taking advantage to the globalization attributes across the divide. The revolution will be won by those who take advantage, and the U.S is losing out because the authorities have chosen to muzzle the internet growth across the country. China, on the other hand, is making headway in the same area, and could beat the U.S in the global competition taking place today. Personal views I believe that Friedman is speaking the truth because the evidence is present. The global nation is slowly taking shape with the new information present. People are using information to make money and that is something people were lacking in the past. The world is slowly realizing it is much cheaper to outsource skills and strengths through the internet, without requiring any physical presence. Those willing to maximize on the present opportunities will be able win in the global competition regarding the use of the internet for personal and societal growth. It is quite easy to talk to friends who are far away in the modern world today compared to the past. The world of instant messaging has also become a key attribute that shows the way forward by highlighting the many steps taken towards making this a reality. Innovation is the best way of dealing with pertinent issues, and this means only we ourselves can hinder our own progress. The dynamism of the current generation is proof that technology is an integral part of the growth experienced in the society. People can now interact with others, share ideas and do business without any hassle. The costs of doing business have gone down. The growth rates of any economies have been boosted by the increasing technological presence, and the sharing of ideas from everywhere. It is important, therefore, to understand that the growing world population will affect the way people interact and do business. The more the people, the more the innovations required, and the higher the competition. Outsourcing is already a concept accepted and appreciated by people today. In the future, the world will only appreciate those who can use the internet to realize their goals. Ceding competition to rivals will hurt emerging entrepreneurs, and budding innovators. However, nothing should be done without examining the ethical implications of the deed or the social impact. By allowing everyone to access the internet, there ought to be some regulations to deter abuse. The regulations need to guide against unethical utilization of technology and negative effects of the information downloaded or uploaded to the society as a whole. These issues will play out in the future and determine how much the regulators can censor the use of the internet in a nation. Nuggets of information learned One of them is that the digital platform enables users to plug, play, compete, connect and collaborate. Another one is whatever can be done will be done. This is an insightful statement. The third aspect is that people are making good use of the available mechanism to boost their online presence. The fourth attribute is the ability to network with as many people as possible while looking for the cheapest place to outsource products. The fifth aspect is that people in the future will only be able to compete appropriately if they can possess two or more specialties and connect the dots easily and quickly. The sixth aspect is that more than three billion people have been added into the online platforms looking for means of survival. If one sleeps, these new players will choke up the available resources and render the citizens immobile yet all resources are within reach. Reference Friedman, T. (2007). The world is flat 3.0.
